However, that being said, if you don’t have much experience, starting your own online business is extremely difficult.
You need to know exactly what you want to do and how you are going to do it. If you don’t know those two things, you will most likely fail in whatever online undertaking you choose to follow. So, let’s try and help make your life easier and answer the question of how to start an online business with no experience.
1.) Finding A Market
The number one most important thing that you need to do before you even get started is to find a market that is worth venturing in to. In other words, you need to find a need, want, or product(s) that people have, and then you need to try to provide that product or service. This is going to involve a whole lot of market research, but it can definitely be worth it if you do it right. Yes, it will take hours, days, or even weeks to find a niche that you enjoy and can make a serious profit in. The point here is that you need to supply a service or product that is in demand in order to be successful. Whether you are selling baby clothes, video games, writing services, or anything in between, there absolutely needs to be a market for it.
2.) Your Website
A big part of creating a successful online business has to do with your website. After all, you are starting an online business, so you need to have a big online presence. This means that you need to create a website that is easily found, attractive, informative, and easy to navigate. We would recommend spending some time learning how to design a website, using web design tools, or finding a good web designer at the very least. If you do not have a good website, you will never be successful.
A lot of this has to do with the way that you present yourself, your products, and your services. You need to be painfully clear as to what your purpose is and what exactly you can offer a potential client or consumer. You need to be able to set up a good offer that people will not be able to resist. At the same time, you need to be able to create a certain sense of urgency. Why do people need your product or service and why do they need it right now?
These are questions you definitely need to answer when making your website. Also, you need to gauge and create your website based on the target audience. If the target audience is the professional business oriented adult, you need to make a professional looking website. On the other hand, if the target audience is a 20 year old action junkie, going with a loud and flashy website is probably the best way to go about it. Perhaps the most important part of your website is the credibility aspect. What we mean is that you need to come across as a credible, legit, and viable solution to whatever problem a potential client or customer is looking to solve. You need to look like the real deal.
You have probably heard of SEO by now, and if you haven’t you absolutely need to do some research and get on that right now. This is closely related to your website. SEO stands for search engine optimization. In a nutshell, this is a way to formulate and create your website so that search engines like Google will list you as a top result. A lot of this has to with keywords, backlinking, the credibility of your site, the quality of links, and how many people visit and talk about your website.
We are not going to get into too much detail about SEO because we could write a whole book on it. The point here is that you need to do research and figure out how to manipulate SEO so that search engines will list your business or service in the first page of search results when people search for the type of business you are in. This is how people will find you. Without SEO, people won’t find your website, which of course means that nobody will buy your products or service.
4.) Social Media & Marketing
In today’s world of Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, and all of those other cool social media platforms, it is essential to take advantage of them. The vast majority of people in younger generations are always on these social media platforms. We can’t blame them because these platforms are great ways to meet new people, stay in touch with old friends, and communicate about everything under the sun. What these social media platforms are also good for is for marketing and brand building. People are always on these platforms, so you may as well take the opportunity and use them for marketing purposes.
Like we said, people need to know who you are and being active on as many social media platforms as possible is a great way to go about it. Think about it. Most social media accounts are free to open, and therefore it provides you with a great marketing opportunity free of cost. Yes, you should probably also reach out to blogs and other websites relates to what you do, because they can write about you and advertise, but that might cost money. And yes, you can pay for advertisements, but that is not ideal. The point we are making here is that social media is a great way to build a presence and market yourself without having to spend too much capital on the startup process.
To recap, you need to know what people want and supply them with that. Find yourself a market and become the best supplier of a service or product. You need to create a killer website with awesome SEO, you need to stand out, and you need to build a brand. Don’t forget to engage in marketing, especially with free avenues like blogs and social medial platforms. No, what we have listed here is not at all exhaustive, but it is a good start nonetheless.
